Research into coaching demonstrates that it often has an extremely beneficial impact on the lives of coaching clients.
Coaching is a structured relationship where you identify and address professional, and at times personal, challenges. Through goal setting, the coaching relationship helps you consciously design your professional life and take action to make it happen. Coaching can address any professional challenge, including relationships with colleagues, players, employees and employers, work-life balance, leadership development and career transitions.
Why Should I Invest in Coaching?
Many of my incoming clients report high levels of stress and anxiety related to the pressure to keep up in the fast pace of professional sports or transitioning to new endeavors. Couple that with the demands of managing life and family obligations, and it can feel like you are constantly struggling to keep your head above water.
There are many ways that coaching can make your professional and personal life better.
A 2009 study by the International Coach Federation showed significant benefits of professional coaching, including:
- 80% of coaching recipients reported an improvement in self-esteem;
- Over 70% of coaching recipients reported an improvement in relationship management, communication skills, interpersonal skills and work performance;
- Over 60% of coaching recipients reported an improvement in work-life balance, wellness, personal organization and business management; and
- 96% of coaching clients indicated that they would repeat the coaching experience given the same circumstances.
Similarly, a 2016 study that compared individual coaching to group training, self-coaching or no intervention, found individual coaching the most effective method to attain goals. Individual coaching also was shown to reduce procrastination and increase career satisfaction. (Frontiers in Psychology, 2016; 7: 629).
The data on coaching backs up my personal experience as both a coach and a coaching client. Coaching can help you perform at your best and enhance your life.
